About SolarEquity

SolarEquity AB is a small Gothenburg-based clean-energy company developing innovative solutions to increase the value of solar electricity production. We work hands-on, in close partnership with industry, and combine deep technical engineering with practical business development. We are a small, focused team where each engineer takes broad ownership of their work.

About the project

We are now hiring a project engineer to lead the technical work on our flagship development project: a cost-effective and reliable passive solar tracker for solar parks and flat industrial roofs. The tracker activates directly from solar irradiation through thermal expansion in metal profiles that also serve as the load-bearing structure — eliminating motors, electronics and active control. The expected gain is 15–25 % higher electricity yield over fixed installations at near-zero added operating cost.

The project is co-funded by the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten, project ref. P2025-02159) and runs through May 2027 in cooperation with Rabbalshede Kraft AB. The role spans the full development cycle from production-ready design through prototype manufacturing, field installation, performance measurement and life-cycle/cost evaluation, with the goal of advancing the technology from TRL 5 to TRL 7.

The role

You will be the day-to-day technical lead for the project, working directly with the CEO and with the project partner. The position is broad and combines mechanical engineering, energy-system engineering and data-driven evaluation. Specific responsibilities include:

• Refining the mechanical design of the tracker for production and installation (CAD, tolerances, material selection, supplier interface).

• Coordinating prototype manufacturing and on-site installation at the partner facility.

• Designing and operating the field measurement campaign: instrumentation, data acquisition, daily and seasonal performance evaluation.

• Producing the technical reports required for the Energimyndigheten progress and final reporting (lägesredovisning, slutredovisning).

• Contributing to the joint business analysis with the project partner and to the technical foundation for future commercialisation.

Required qualifications

• MSc in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, sustainable energy systems, or a closely related field.

• At least two years of professional engineering experience in the energy sector (solar, energy storage, grid services, or comparable).

• Working proficiency with mechanical CAD (Solidworks, Fusion 360, or equivalent) for design and documentation.

• Demonstrated experience with field testing of energy hardware and with structured analysis of measurement data.

• Python proficiency for data acquisition, processing and automation; comfort with SQL and standard analysis tooling.

• Professional working English (written and spoken). Swedish is meriting but not required.

• Right to work in Sweden, or willingness and eligibility to obtain a Swedish work permit.

Meriting qualifications

• Hands-on experience with prototype assembly, mechanical commissioning, or low-volume production.

• Familiarity with the Nordic electricity market and with the technical requirements set by transmission system operators (TSOs) for grid-connected energy assets.

• Background in renewable-energy student projects (Solar Decathlon, Formula Student/Hybrid, or comparable applied engineering teams).

• Experience producing technical reports for public-funded R&D projects (Energimyndigheten, Vinnova, EU Horizon).

Personal qualities

We are a five-person company and you will operate with a high degree of autonomy. We look for someone who is comfortable taking technical ownership end-to-end, who is structured in their documentation and reporting, who communicates clearly across mechanical, electrical and data domains, and who is genuinely engaged in the energy transition. The ability to combine careful engineering with a practical, get-it-done attitude is essential.

Employment details

Form: Project employment, 12-month period.

Scope: Full-time, 40 hours/week.

Benefits: Occupational pension (ITP 1 via Collectum, 4.5 % up to 7.5 income base amounts and 30 % above), TGL group life insurance, TFA occupational injury insurance, and 25 days paid vacation. Terms are aligned with the white-collar collective agreement (Tjänstemannaavtalet).

Start date: By agreement; planned start asap (subject to work permit if applicable).

How to apply
